Clarice Johnson

Clarice Johnson of Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, was born February 13, 1933 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, to Esaw and Rachel (Gordon) Cheadle. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 13, 2026, at the age of 93.
Clarice lived in Fort Cobb most of her life. She married the love of her life Melvin Johnson on April 20, 1950 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with six children. Melvin departed this life in January of 2012.
Clarice was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Fort Cobb. She was a devoted and faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ throughout her life and was deeply thankful for every blessing He gave her during her time on this earth. She served as a deaconess and was active in her missionary work.
Clarice was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her family was her heart and soul whom she loved beyond measure. She enjoyed playing dominoes, sewing, and cooking. She looked forward to traveling with her sisters on their yearly sisters retreat. She also participated in the Foster Grandparent Program at the Caddo Kiowa Vocational Center and had the honor of serving as Grand Marshal of the 2005 Fort Cobb Parade. Clarice worked as a Nurses Assistant for 20 years at the Carnegie Hospital. She belonged to the Crescent Home Demonstration Club of Fort Cobb. In her earlier years, Clarice participated in a Ladies Group Basketball Team.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Johnson; her parents, Esaw and Rachel Cheadle; her son, Jerry Johnson; her brothers, Nathaniel Cheadle, Melvin Cheadle, and Calvin Cheadle; and her sisters, Thelma Smith, Nancey Richards, Matilda Woodley, Martha Davis, Ivory Rice, and “Pinky” Annette Lindsey.
She is survived by her children: Carl Johnson, Loretta Allen, Kenneth Johnson, Rachel James, and Robert Johnson all of Fort Cobb; her sisters: Opal Gray of Kansas City, Missouri; Carolyn Webb and Melvin of Oklahoma City; brothers; Paul Cheadle of Oklahoma City; and Alfred Cheadle and Marion of Tishomingo. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She will be truly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma.
