Cleo Kodaseet, 93, of Carnegie, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023, at the Carnegie hospital. He was born on January 30, 1930, to Lee "Em-tau-ke-heal" and Emma "Emquo-nah" Kodaseet in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
Cleo grew up and attended school in Carnegie, graduating from Mountain View High School in 1948. He married Nona Marie Ahhaitty on November 10, 1966, in the Little Red Church in Carnegie. Cleo entered into the United States Army at the age of 21 and served with honor from April 3, 1951 and was discharged on Feb. 27, 1954 from Camp Carson, Colorado. He served a total of 2 years, 10 months and 25 days, including 1 year, 2 months and 12 days during the Korean war. Cleo was a field artillery man and was assigned to C Battery, 213th Field Artillery Battalion. He earned the rank of CPL (E4). His awards include the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two campaign stars, The National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
After Cleo was honorably discharged, he worked as a carpet inspector, retiring after 29 years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Nona Marie Kodaseet of the home; sons, Harry "Tony" Ahhaitty, Lawton, OK; Aaron Ahhaitty, Mountain View, OK; Dewayne Kodaseet, Catoosa, OK; daughter, Victoria Ahhaitty, Carnegie, OK; aunt, Odessa of Oklahoma City, OK; nieces, Deloris Poafpybitty of Stecker, OK; Violet Bert of Anadarko, OK; Libby Chalepah of Mountain View, OK; Joi Kodaseet of Oklahoma City, OK; Alberta Kodaseet-Jones of Cass Lake, MN; Glenda Kodaseet of Albuquerque, NM; and Sandra Quoetone of Meers, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Emma Kodaseet; grandparents, Calisay and To-gome-get-ty Kodaseet; siblings, Kate Tonahcut; Dora Kodaseet; Luis Kodaseet; Joy Kodaseet; Harriet Kodaseet; Wilbur Kodaseet; Jody Kodaseet; Donald Kodaseet and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Ray & Martha's Funeral Home in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Interment was in the Carnegie Cemetery in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
Services were under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie, Oklahoma.
