Colleen Elizabeth Courtney

February 14, 2024

Colleen Elizabeth Courtney, age 74, loving mother of John “David” Stewart, passed away unexpectedly and tragically on February 3, 2024, following a medical procedure in Oklahoma City.

Colleen was born in Odessa, Texas, in 1949, and then moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1961 with her brother, John Perry Eckert Jr., and parents, John and Wanda Eckert. Colleen graduated from Chickasha High School in 1968, and then later continued her education at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in accounting and the procurement of her certified public accountancy (CPA) license immediately thereafter.

Her late parents, John and Wanda, were members of the greatest generation: her father a flight officer on a B-25 during World War II, and her mother a small business owner. Her late brother served in Vietnam.

Since early childhood, Colleen enjoyed a love for animals and a gift for taking care of them. She rode horses professionally and competed around the southwest in the sport of barrel-racing. By weaving her love of animals together with her talent for numbers and incredible managerial skills, Colleen developed a thriving cattle business in the Carnegie, Oklahoma, area, in alignment with her successful accounting business.

Her work ethic and love of education will continuously inspire everyone.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Alla Stewart, her beautiful granddaughters, Isabella and Alexandra (“Sasha”), her husband Terry Courtney, her sister, LaWanda Eckert, her precious dog Belle, along with numerous farm animals, friends, employees, clients, and extended family.

She would ask us to respect the land, our animals, and nature itself just as she always did.

A Memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Carnegie, OK.

Services were under the direction of Ray & Martha’s Funeral Home in Carnegie, OK.
