David Lynn ‘Goose’ Shields

David Lynn ‘Goose’ Shields, 72, of Gotebo, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2025, in his home.
He was born on March 8, 1952, in Sentinel, OK to Earl and Alene Patterson Shields. David grew up in the Lake Valley community just up the road from Sharon Baptist Church. He attended Lake Valley school and then Gotebo High School where he graduated in 1970. He met the love of his life, Thirza Ann Walters, and they were united in marriage on November 4,1977, in Cordell, OK. Together they raised three children. David worked and had a passion for farming and driving a semi over the years and eventually retired from Kiowa County District 1. David also had a love for livestock, especially Poland China pigs. He still enjoyed helping his close friends farm in the Lake Valley community along with following his grandkids in their activities.
Survivors include his children: Chris Shields and wife, Dena, Cordell, OK., Mindy Dooley and husband, Michael, Gotebo, OK, Ryan Shields and wife, Tabitha, Gotebo, OK; grandchildren: Jamie Phipps, Kira Hoefar, Britton Shields, Morgan Dooley, and Hayes Dooley, and great-grandchildren: Harper Phipps and Sawyer White.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alene Shields; wife, Thirza Shields; siblings: Jerry Shields and Pat Whitener.
Graveside service were set for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Sharon Cemetery, Gotebo, OK. 
Visitation was from 3-8 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2025, and 1-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home, Hobart.
In lieu of flowers an account has been set up at Banc First in Hobart, OK.
Donations can be made in David’s honor to benefit the Mountain View-Gotebo FFA/4H program.
Services were under the direction of Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home, Hobart.
