Elwin Ellery Wheeler, 65, of Anadarko, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 25, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was born on July 4, 1959, to Joe Jr. and Leona Mae (Tsatsatine) Wheeler in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Elwin grew up in Carnegie, graduating from Carnegie High School in 1977. He went on to attend Haskell, Cameron, USAO, and graduating from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology. Elwin married Claudia Kaulaity on January 30, 1994, in Carnegie, Oklahoma. He was athletic and excelled in sports playing basketball, football, baseball and softball. He was an avid OU Sooner, OKC Thunder, and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Elwin was a proud member of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribe. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and help others. He worked for the Corps of Engineers in Tulsa, Oklahoma, IHS, Health and Sanitation in Parker, Arizona, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of Transportation retiring after 20+ years of service on November 30, 2022.
Survivors include his wife: Claudia Wheeler, Anadarko, Oklahoma; children: Michael Gene Gooday, Robin Michelle and spouse, Bivin Davis, Heath Poafpybitty, Jared Lee Wheeler and companion, Maria Guevara; grandchildren: Michelle December and spouse, Dakoda Josh, Alysia Vasquez and companion, Austin Messner, Drew Vasquez, Taneya Lynn and companion, Kayden Passi, and Delos Lonewolf, Haylee LeAnn and Jacob Ray Poafpybitty, Whit'lee and Greyson Wheeler and great-grandsons: Adriel Jay Messner and MacNeil Passi; Neices: Christina Guoladdle, Myra Wheeler, Melinda Lee Boyiddle, and Michelle Autaubo; nephews: Beau Guoladdle and Neal Wheeler and numerous cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Jr. and Leona Wheeler; great-grandparents, Joe Sr. and Ethel (Roberts) Wheeler; siblings: Harlan Wheeler, Herschel Wheeler, Carolyn Jean Guoladdle, and Derith "Tina" Boyiddle and nephew Joe Arthur Guoladdle
Pallbearers were Shane Guoladdle, Drew Vasquez, Delos Lonewolf, Darryl Galindo, Austin Messner, Dakoda Josh and Kayden Passi. Honorary pallbearers were Tony Galindo, Rick Cooper, Bernie Toyekoyah, Beau Guoladdle and Freddy Galindo.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2025, at Ware's Chapel United Methodist Church in Anadarko.
Visitation was from 1- 5 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Ray & Martha's Funeral Home in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
A Wake was held at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Ware's Chapel United Methodist Church in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
Interment was in the Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Anadarko, OK.
